Friday Night Sessions

Updated: Jun 5, 2021

My sweetest and earliest memories are of my dad lowering the lights and turning on quiet, contemplative music on Friday nights. He’d lie on the floor and let me crawl up on his chest. I'd lay my head down and listen to his heartbeat with one ear and the peaceful music with the other. He'd hum along and pat my back in time to the music. It was pure peace.

My dad has been gone for nearly than a decade, and I've never stopped missing him. He wasn't musical, but he loved music and loved to listen to me play. When my own children were small, they would often fall asleep on Friday nights listening to me quietly play the piano—old hymns and melodies that just came to me as played them to sleep surrounded by flickering candlelight.

All four of my children are grown now, two of them with children of their own, but when they visit they still love to fall asleep by candlelight on Friday nights, listening to me play the piano. Friday Night Sessions, my first upcoming album, is for them. This Is My Father's World and 'Tis So Sweet are from that album.

It includes many of the same tunes I played years ago as well as a few new ones I've recently recorded. The music brings back rich, peaceful memories for me. I pray it will bring you the same sense of peace.

Each new single will be added to my YouTube Friday Night Sessions sub-channel where you can listen anytime. The songs are also available to stream on Apple Music and Spotify as well as to download directly to your device.

Lie back, close your eyes, breathe, trust, and contemplate the goodness of God as you listen.

I remember Conna as a student when I taught Physics and Mathematics at SLA. It is such a pleasure to hear and to know how well she is doing.
